As H+A's second wedding anniversary passes, I can't help but reminisce on what an incredible week it was. Although the thought of travelling and gathering in large groups is a foreign concept right now, I know this couple is chomping at the bit to get back in the air as soon as it's safe to do so.
H+A decided to get married at Moon Palace (which still sends me promotional emails, as if there aren't enough reminders of this week already), an upscale golf and spa resort located about an hour south of Cancun. Most guests spent a full week enjoying the amenities of the resort. The skies on their wedding day threatened to open up, but instead made for a beautiful hazy overcast weather.
The couple started out the day with their wedding party members - I was fortunate to hang around the bridal party while they had their hair and makeup done at the spa, following them back to the wedding suite to finish getting ready before heading down to the ocean-front ceremony view.
After some emotional first looks with the family, it was time to head down to the ceremony area. A beautiful outdoor marble-lined pergola, set against the Atlantic made for a tropical dream. The groom's first look says it all.
Surrounded by almost 60 friends and family, H+A exchanged vows, some laughs and a few sneaky tears. Cocktail hour and family portraits followed the ceremony, leaving a bit of time for the wedding party to sneak away for more photos before the reception.
I loved being able to recreate the engagement photos taken back home in Skead, Ontario. Using the pier and beach located at the resort we spent a few moments together before heading back inside. One of my favourite moments of the day was capturing the maid-of-honour of the year, hiding behind the retaining wall and giving her dress for the couple to stay clean during portraits.
After some time on the pier, everybody headed inside to greet the guests and kick off the reception, which mimicked the high energy and spirits that the couple show for each other every day. Grand openings, speeches and an epic first dance kept guests thoroughly entertained until they could return the favour by performing a flash mob rendition of Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell", courtesy of Pulp Fiction.
Once the reception hall closed for the night, the party continued to the hotel lobby bar and Noir, the resort nightclub, where the remaining evening festivities were carried out. This was not only my first destination wedding, but my first trip to Mexico! Thank you H+A for trusting me to capture such a special moment in your lives.
