There were no details spared when it came to D&B's backyard wedding. Their intimate gathering was able to follow all local health authority guidelines with a baker's dozen people in attendance. Set against Lake Wanapitei, the day provided one of the last warm days of summer before the cold weather grabbed hold over Northern Ontario.
Every piece of the day was thoughtfully curated, crafted or donated from friends and family.
The layout complimented the natural beauty of the lake, with soft linens and autumn-inspired decor. Photos of friends and loved ones lined the seating area to keep them present this year while keeping a safe distance and minimizing travel.
When I say every detail, I mean it - every detail was planned. A few of the details included craft beer originating from each location the couple lived together, bottles for florals collected over many kombucha-consuming months, table linens hand-stitched for perfect seams, heirloom dinnerware and hand-poured candles lining the dock, which hosted a birch arbour crafted by the groom's father.
D&B managed to keep it together much better than I did when it came time for the first look. They opted to have a quiet moment to themselves before the ceremony began.
The day was focused on celebrating their love - the ceremony itself lasted less than ten minutes, and immediately led into a champagne-fueled family photo session before kicking off cocktail hour.
One of my favourite moments from the day came as we set out after dinner for some golden hour photos. Inspired by our engagement session in 2018, D&B enjoyed a casual evening paddle with their best dog, Popcorn.
After dinner, a paddle ride, delicious cake and a tear-filled speech, the night winded down and the attendees enjoyed each other's company around a fire, where the looming thunderstorm was heard faintly in the distance. The rain held off just long enough for their day.
This was my first COVID-wedding, and it was definitely one for the books. Thank you to D&B for allowing me to capture such a special day.
